Godzilla x Kong Dominates Box Office Despite New Horror Movie Releases

Despite the release of several new horror films, the highly anticipated blockbuster “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” continues to dominate the box office. After a week without any major competitors, the epic monster clash has maintained its position at the top of the charts, though it faced intense competition from the horror genre, with five horror movies being released simultaneously.

According to data from Box Office Vietnam on the morning of April 9th, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” remains the top-grossing film. While not facing any overwhelmingly popular new releases, the movie still had to contend with a crowded horror lineup, including “Exhuma,” “Monkey Man,” “The First Omen,” “Knock at the Cabin,” and “Evil Dead Rise.”

Despite the challenges, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” has proven its staying power, raking in over 1.04 trillion Vietnamese dong (approximately $44 million) after two weeks in theaters. Its impressive performance has helped drive Vietnam’s total box office revenue for the first three months of the year past the 1 trillion dong mark.

The continued success of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” can be attributed to its thrilling premise, which pits the iconic movie monsters against each other in an epic battle for dominance. The film, directed by Adam Wingard, is a sequel to the 2021 hit “Godzilla vs. Kong” and features an ensemble cast including Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry.
